Because Flowey talks to you a few times he has sneezed a bunch of pollen on to you that won’t come off, so everyone just starts to sneeze around you.
During battle, in between everyone’s usual attacks is just an occasional attack that is just them sneezing in your general direction.
The monster’s don’t need souls to cross the barrier, they just need to prove to humans at the barrier that they aren’t sick anymore, they take the opportunity of fallen humans to make a cure and find out that 1 soul can cure one monster, but 7 can cure everyone.
The reason Asriel and Chara died was because Chara had apparently gotten sick before they started the plan and halfway through the barrier they were suddenly sick. The barrier didn’t let people go back into the underground, so the humans took action and killed them.
I WILL ROLL THIS AU INTO EXISTENCE ALONGSIDE MULTIFELL, MARK MY WORDS.

When did sickness come into this I was just rolling with seasonal allergies that affect everyone.
Chara and Asriel can maybe be legitimately sick though? Or maybe they’re just highly allergic to bees. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
