Lmao this American girl walked up to a Hungry Jacks (Burger King) register with her drink and really, really loudly (I was at the other side of the place) proclaimed:
“I asked for Lemonade, you gave me Sprite” in a really bitchy, entitled voice.
The cashier (and everyone within earshot) just looked at her like “the fuck is wrong with you”
In Australia, Sprite IS lemonade as far as we’re concerned.
Yeah this is correct. Lemonade is sprite. Clear fizzy liquid type thing. Solo is closer to what American lemonade is but we don’t actually have what you guys consider lemonade anyway so she was never going to get what she wanted lmao.
Y’ALL AIN’T GOT LEMONADE?!?!??
madness…
“we don’t actually have what you guys consider lemonade“
That entire continent exists on a different realm of existence
IT IS THE SAME DAMN THING. You Yankees and your fifty brands of the same 😛
LEMONADE AND SPRITE ARE NOTHING ALIKE
Things heating up in the drink fandom
I’m pretty sure the same is true in the UK at least was in 2010 except Sprite didn’t seem to be a common brand so I’d ask for Sprite get blank looks eventually figured out to ask for lemonade
Sprite is a recognised brand here, but it’s not omnipresent, it is also considered a brand of lemonade.
This is fucked up.
Sprite: lemon-lime soda (pop/carbonated beverage).
Lemonade: lemons, water, and sugar. Still.
LEMONADE IS NOT CARBONATED WHATT HEFUCC CK ARE YOU ALL DOIGN
Living? Sensibly?
Also on what planet does Sprite have lime in it.
Sprite, the lemon-lime flavored
carbonated beverage, is made on Earth.
Earth is the third planet from the Sun, the densest planet in the Solar System, the largest of the Solar System’s four terrestrial planets, and the only astronomical object known to harbor Sprite.
The people of Earth are known as “Earthlings” or “Spriteloids” interchangeably (although not to each other).
At least in the UK, if you order lemonade you’ll sometimes get Sprite, but if it’s proper it’s a lemon soda akin to the Italian gassosa – less sweet than Sprite.
Oh shit, I’ve had gassosa, it’s AMAZING.
I just want to say that the whole ‘lemonade and Sprite are interchangeable’ is pretty common throughout Asia as well, in my experience
You guys have orange juice at least, right? Grapefruit juice? In the US, Lemonade is a juice, like orange juice, but made with lemons instead of oranges. You can buy “fresh squeezed lemonade” at many restaurants and fast food venues. Typically it’s diluted a bit with sugar water, so the sour flavor of the raw lemon juice isn’t so overpowering.
In the south, it’s very common for people buy whole lemons and make their own lemonade at home using a citrus juicer.
In Germany, you’d ask for “Limonade” and yeah, you may get a Sprite or a Fanta; it’ll always be a fizzy nonalcoholic drink and usually come in lemon, lime, orange flavor. Only in healthfood or hipster establishments would it ever be an actual juice drink.
As a fan of homemade rosewater lemonade, I am twitching at the thought of sickly sweet carbonated beverages that taste like they were invented by someone who may have been in the same room as a citrus fruit once but can’t remember what it actually tastes like being called lemonade.
Wtf did y’all think beyonce was talking about????
oh wow I hadn’t even considered that. Like millions of people worldwide hearing the album title but not understanding what lemonade means even on the most superficial level.
This is so epically disturbing. Lemonade is such an integral part of spring and summertime. I just … this breaks my brain and my heart. The cultural references too. Just, all the American shows that reference lemonade and people in other countries are thinking Sprite? There’s a reason kids do freshly squeezed lemonade stands. You can’t buy it like that from a store. And there’s nothing quite like screwing it up and getting the sugar ratio wrong. And parents grinning through the too sour or too sweet mess and praising your efforts. Lemonade Is a Thing.
Wait does that mean Aussies make Shandies with sprite?????
Does this mean a significant portion of the global population don’t know what to do when life hands you lemons?
Yes, Australians make Shandies with our carbonated soft drink lemonade, though if you’re using it as a mixer, you’re less likely to be using Sprite and more likely to be using Schweppes, which looks like this:
Like. We absolutely have a concept of flat, juice-based lemonade, but as an earlier commenter said, it’s a niche hipster speciality rather than the default, and even then, it’s still going to be premade rather than fresh.
OH GOD THAT’S WHY AMERICAN CHILDREN CAN MAKE IT AND SELL IT SO EASILY. I ALWAYS WONDERED HOW KIDS COULD MAKE A CARBONATED DRINK AT HOME.
omg. the last comment.
Much like the Beyonce question above, this brings up that there’s a whole portion of the world that has just been baffled by mention of lemonade to this point.
This post has been a magical read.
Holy shit @revoltaleau I know we had a nice debate on this but I didn’t know it was THIS BIG OF A DEAL LMAO
The hardest lesson in life is accepting the mistakes you’ve made. Especially when it’s now since devolved into little bitty pieces and now, it feels like it’s too late for it to ever be well again.
But it’s not, is it? You know it. You just said it.
It’s not too late. It’s not too late to say sorry. It’s never too late to be kind.
You know.. it’s not just you who made this mistake. I.. I wanted to tell everyone to chill too. I wanted to say take a deep breath, and it’ll be ok. This is normal. It’s happened many times with other creators. The other side of being popular, I know how this cycle works. And I could how it could end. Would end.
But what do you care, or anyone? I’m just your random internet stranger. What I said wouldn’t matter at all. I didn’t want to be grouped in with the people who were attacking sanei either. i thought, I didn’t matter. My words would never matter. Those were my excuses to myself.
So I did nothing.
I think… that a lot of people feel like this too. Like you, like me. In watching… all this go down, and never say those words, that maybe… you just needed to chill, and realize that the treasure you created is yours. It’s only yours, there’s no other ‘sanei’ out there who can create the things that sanei can, does. I think a lot of us were afraid. Afraid to speak up, afraid of being rebuked. We were just insignificant fans, and we didn’t matter. Writing this out for real… I realize how stupid we are.
I’m sorry.
I loved flowerfell, I still do. It was one of my earliest fanart pieces for the UT fandom. And one of the very first reasons for me to create this blog, this blog called yoyo fucking happiness. It was absolutely the reason that I got into the UT fandom in the first place. I was so immensely happy when I got a comment from the creator themself. I thought, my art made a little difference in this world. Someone is happy because of something I made, I couldn’t stop smiling. I couldn’t stop being happy. I made another for their birthday, day of, because I had joined the fandom so late I didn’t know beforehand. It was my way of thanking them for… making me so happy. Even though I’ve been kind of afraid of drawing anymore since… well, everything went to pieces. I love, love the beautiful melancholy that I got from flowerfell. The undying strength to forge onwards when the world is against you. To cling so desperately to the ideal of being kind. This struck my heart very close to home.
Strength, I believe, is the will to get up and move on when all you’ve done is fall down.
But I’m getting a bit off track. Sorry this turned into a wall of text. All I really wanted to say is:
Thanks for speaking up, and to us, paintscroll. From one internet stranger to another, know that I respect and admire you. Knowing that we aren’t really acquainted in any meaningful way, I hope that from the bottom of my heart, you will be well, too.
Thank you. For being a kind person. Because sometimes I like to think, that kindness is indeed enough.
HNNNGGGHHH CLEARLY NOT SINCE IT HASN’T BEEN UP FOR FIVE HOURS AT THE TIME OF THIS POST BUT I CAN PROMISE YOU IT’S GONNA END UP BEING AT LEAST THAT LONG CUZ HOLY FUUUUUUUUUUDGE I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH OMFG X-X
Sigh. I really did not want to have to resort to this, but this has been a problem in the fandom overall for far too long. What is this problem? Music theft.
Some of you may know that I have repeatedly asked people NOT to upload my songs to youtube, yet despite this, it is a recurring problem, and I am not alone. My fellow composers LucasPucas, Jimmythebassist, Jamangar, ZacharyChang, among others, repeatedly have their songs taken without consent by Youtubers such as Herobrine TV, Yeah, Outershift Chara, TheYazzer, TylerNess, Horse Burgers YT, Oka C-Fox, FreddyGaming CH, CrazyArtPhoenix, The DVLPR, and others. I will add to this list as needed.
Allow me to make one thing clear: None of us are okay with this. I speak with these composers on a regular basis, both in the IF and Storyshift Discords, and we are all sick of this.
You may think it is harmless. You may even think this is exposure for our work, but here’s the thing: these people are getting traffic and subscribers for content they did not create, and sometimes they don’t even credit! Or worse yet, rename the tracks and try to parade them as works for AUs the original composers do not even like.
Even worse, they ignore blatant requests not to take our content. For example, my Soundcloud profile states, and I quote: “**IMPORTANT**: People have been uploading my songs to their youtube
accounts without my permission. Please do not do this. I know a lot of
my stuff isn’t up there yet, but I do plan to bring it over in time. If
you want to use my songs for any reason, I’d like credit, and asking
permission is preferred.“
Never mind all the descriptions where I also reiterate that I do not want reuploads. Because the fact of the matter is, reuploads take traffic away from the original creator, and when people don’t link back or hide the credit under lengthy descriptions, it leads people to believe that the uploader is the composer, when all they did was lazily take someone else’s work and slap it into a video editor.
I will take a moment to note that Umbra Extensions is actually one of the few music channels on Youtube that not only asks permission, but does his best to give credit where due. If more people were like Umbra Extensions, I would not be making this post.
But the actual focus of my PSA is TheYazzer, who has not only taken a great deal of my Inverted Fate music and that of others, but he has monetized it. See for yourself:
But you wanna know the kicker? I had actually commented and asked him to remove the video…
And for a while, it seemed like he did… only for him to put it back up behind my back. Others have noticed this, and commented accordingly. Some friends have provided screencaps here and here, in case the uploader decides to “hide the evidence,” as it were. I would link the video itself, but since this chap decided he could make money off of my work, I don’t want to give him more fodder.
I have submitted a copyright claim, and I will continue to do this for any videos that take my content without consent. However, the fact that I even have to go this far represents a huge problem in the Undertale music community. Musicians are not being treated with the respect they deserve.People assume that they can just snatch music, slap it together as a video compilation, and reap the spoils.
This has to stop. I doubt it will, but if spreading this message can make even the slightest difference, then I am sure as hell gonna try. So please, if you enjoy our music, please reblog. It will help us all out tremendously.
Thank you for your time. Your regularly scheduled IF content will return shortly
PS. I am still okay with use of my music in fandubs if credit is given. It is the shameless stealing that I do not allow.
