do u know how many possibilities there are for their interactions based on the fact that they were the last monsters left in the underground during genocide run.. pls.. i need this

(I may have done a thing. I hope you don’t mind! I’ve never written in Asgore’s POV but I figured since I’m constantly in Sans’s, I would try something new. Also I’m a huge fan of the royal fool Sans concept here, and I wanted to give that a test run! ❤

Word count: 935)

They were the only two left.

And yet, somehow, it seemed like any other
time they’d sat down to have tea together. The Jester and the King, just
sitting in the throne room together, across from each other, talking quietly.
Talking freely.

No one had been aware of Sans’s true
position. Not his brother, not the captain, not the royal scientist. He only
came here when Asgore was alone, and they sat just like this, sipping golden
flower tea. So in many ways, it was as if nothing was wrong.

But the dusty scarf around his neck was a
constant reminder that everything was
wrong.

“mettaton is facing them right now. he
said he wasn’t going to, but he is.”

“The robot celebrity? I wasn’t aware he
knows how to fight.”

“i got a look at his specs once while
snooping at the lab. alphys packed quite a lot of firepower into one body.”

“Speaking of Alphys…”

“in hiding, with anyone else who didn’t
cross paths with the demon.”

His expression seemed relaxed as he sipped
his tea, despite the fact that everyone they knew was dead. Perhaps it was just
because he had a permanent smile on his face, Asgore mused. He had mused this
often. Sans was his most trusted confidant, but also an enigma he had never
quite figured out. Truly, he was perfect for his role. The hidden information
gatherer. The Fool, nothing more than a joke, never taken seriously, and yet,
the one with every secret and every piece of intel, delivered straight to him.
He wondered how many secrets Sans actually let him in on, and how many he kept
to himself.

But now was not the time to go asking for
the skeleton’s life story. Even if they were quite possibly about to die.
Asgore looked down into his tea for a long moment. He had poured them each a
cup, but now he hadn’t touched his own, too worried about what was to come.
After several moments of silence, he looked back up.

“And what about you, Sans?”

“me? what about me?”

“Are you really going to fight? I wasn’t
aware you knew how to fight either.
What with your… stats how they are.”

A low chuckle escaped the smaller monster.
He set his teacup back down on the saucer and moved his hand instead to the
scarf around his neck. He looked up at Asgore then, and the King realized that
that relaxed demeanor was barely stable. It was all in his eye sockets, how is
pupils were just barely there, little pinpricks on the verge of disappearing
entirely. Every few moments, they flashed blue or yellow, faintly, and so
quickly he hadn’t noticed until just now. And then Sans’s permagrin stretched
wider. The sudden menacing aura sent a shiver down his back, and suddenly, he
was positive that this short, 1 HP skeleton could best him in combat any day.

“i’m not really a fighter,” Sans said,
contradicting the aura surrounding him. “but i don’t have a choice anymore, do
i?”

“Well… there is always a choice, Sans…”

“not now. i’m going to die either way.
maybe under different circumstances, i’d lie down and take it, but not for
this.”

“I see…”

The chilly, deadly demeanor vanished as
quickly as it came. Sans’s smile softened again and he picked up his teacup
again, tearing that gaze away from Asgore. The King realized only when his
shoulders relaxed that he had been tense the whole time.

He opened his mouth, thinking he had to
say something else, about perhaps just finding out why the human child was so
angry at everything, or perhaps about how he wished Sans would flee with the
others, or maybe even about how he was afraid, how he had lived for centuries
and yet was not ready to die, and how could Sans accept it so easily, when he
was still pretty young? None of those things came out, and he closed his mouth
again slowly. Sans was an enigma, it was true, but he had never before felt so
much like he was sitting with a stranger. He felt as though he wanted this
moment to stretch several hours longer, so they could talk, truly talk. Because they had talked and talked
before, relaying information, swapping ideas about how to improve the
underground, sharing stories about their favorite people, and it had all seemed
so genuine at the time. But suddenly it seemed as though they had never really talked. And there were so many
things, and so little time, that he didn’t even know where to begin.

He lost his chance. Sans finished his tea,
then began to lower the cup again. He kept his gaze down as he spoke again, a
certain serenity to his voice.

“welp. it was nice knowing ya, asgore.”

He set the teacup and saucer down, then
stood up. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his parka, then closed one
eye socket as he looked down at the king – he was just barely taller standing
than Asgore was sitting. Asgore knew he had to say something now, but still, nothing of substance would come. He spoke
anyway.

“…Goodbye, my friend.”

That seemed to satisfy Sans. He turned
away and headed for the door, not looking back once.

“see ya on the other side, buddy… or not.”

The King sighed quietly once he was gone,
then collected both teacups to put away. And now, he was alone… but for a tiny
flower he found behind his throne, that had suddenly began to weep.

Death offers a game for your life. You decide on D&D.

“I assume you’ve never played?” I asked.

The cloaked figure across from me shook their head slowly.

“Great,” I said. “I’ll be the DM. I’ll walk you through everything. First, character creation.”

Six hours later Death sat leaned over the table with a mountain dew in one hand and a D20 in the other. Their hood was thrown back to reveal a bleached grinning skull.

We were in the company of four infernals from the depths of the Abyss. I don’t remember which of us invited each of them. Turned out we had quite a few friends in common.

They rolled a one.

“Oohh, tough luck,” I said with a smile.

“Fuck. This is the best time I’ve had in centuries, but I really should get back to work,” they said reluctantly.

“Yeah…” One of the demons agreed. “I actually have a meeting with some senators in like an hour.”

“Same time next week?” Death asked.

“I’ll be here,” I agreed.

I suspected they knew before we started that this was a game that didn’t have to have an end and didn’t have a winner.

Just a little random inspiration.

https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/ultimate_game.png

For those who don’t know, this xkcd strip was done as a memorial when Gary Gygax died.

They came back the next week, and the week after that. After a month of weekly sessions, Death pulled me aside.

“Hey,” he muttered, shuffling his skeletal feet a bit and rubbing his arm. “I don’t want to be That Guy, but this game does have an end, right? I’m having a blast, but this is still technically work for me, and I have to file reports, especially with all the loopholes I had to pull on to get a multi-session game approved in the first place.”

“Oh, yeah, for sure!” I told him. “There’s lots of ways for it to end. “Your characters could all die, we could finish the story we’re telling together, or our group could even just stop playing.”

Satisfied, he took his place at the table, but for months thereafter, he would cock his head at me every time I ended a session with excitement to play again. All I could do was shrug.

The weeks turned into months, turned into years, and Death stopped his reminders that our game, like everything else in the world, would eventually have to die. He told me, once, that he was determined to see this through to the end because my absurdly long game would make for a good story, but I think he had grown attached to his gnome cleric. Her magic was from the Life domain, and his grin always seemed just a touch wider every time he healed someone.

Half a decade after we began, my players were as seasoned as their level 20 characters, and I was running out of curveballs that would challenge them, so I wrote an end to the campaign. I spent months on it, carefully tying up every loose plot thread I could think of and giving all five members of the party the best resolution I could muster. Three of them got married to each other.

There were tears flowing from every eye that wasn’t an empty socket as I narrated their proverbial rides into the sunset, before finally I folded my screen, looked at each of them in turn, and said “The end. Death, you can take my soul now.”

He froze, and the demons around the table turned as one to stare at him.

Then, slowly, he cocked his head the same way he used to. “But you won,” he said. “The object of the game is to tell a story with your friends, and you did.”

“But so did you!” I cried! “And everyone knows that when Death wins a game, he gets your soul.”

Death’s grin spread wider than it ever had when he saved someone’s life in-game. “Didn’t you just finish pouring it into a game that you shared with me?”

Actual Depression Tips

adorable-avacado:

Those thousands of plates, bowls, wrappers and cups in your room that have been there for weeks and are going mouldy?

Invest in a plastic laundry basket like this one:

you can by it here on amazon. they usually are really cheap and easy to get pretty much anywhere, and you can put all the plates/cups/wrappers in one easy-to-carry place rather than all over your bedroom. If you put it at the end of your bed, or beside it, next time you go downstairs you can just bring every plate with you at once.

also, you can get a Dishmatic washing up brush like this:

you can fill it up with washing up fluid so you don’t have to waste spoons squeezing it out every time you wanna clean a dish. They take pretty much a whole bottle of liquid at once so all you need is water! they’re super handy and you don’t have to get your hands in gross dirty water.

All those clothes all over your floor?

if you get another one of those laundry baskets i linked up there, it’s much easier to throw it in there rather than in a laundry basket, if you’re like me and just sorta throw stuff on the floor.

if you prefer a laundry basket though, you can get a double hamper like this

which makes it easier to sort your laundry in. the next step is bringing it downstairs which is a bit of a struggle. my trick for it is rolling a d20 dice using this roller and if i get a number higher than 10, i get up and do it. if i don’t, i stay sitting/laying down for another hour or so.

Having trouble getting up and making food?

Two words: CANNED FOOD.

if you get a little box or a basket (i have one in the shape of a kitty under my vanity) and keep it in your bedroom along with a can-opener and a utensil, stuff like this can last FOREVER.

You can get all sorts of food in cans, and most of it is microwavable so it’s an easy cook! Also, fruit slices generally come in cans of their own juice, so they double as a snack AND a drink!

You can also get bottles like these:

these ones are sistema shaker bottles and they take about 700ml per bottle. i’ve found it’s way easier to just fill up a bottle with juice/water instead of making cups all the time.

Bath/shower just not happening?

For this, I’d recommend baby wipes – they can really make the difference in cleanliness of your body! These you can get, like, anywhere, but here’s a link for some on amazon too.

I also recommend some batiste dry shampoo for your hair! all you do is spray it then brush it in

Feeling lonely or isolated?

There’s a whole bunch of cool discord servers you can join! they’re usually open to anyone with the links (it has voice calls but not video as of yet) as well as Skype where you can video call friends! discord server group chats are fun because you can talk to people whenever you want to, but you don’t have to go in there if you’re not feeling like it.

These are just some of the things I do to help myself cope with my depression. It isn’t ever easy to do, but these, hopefully, are some things that can help with some of the struggles that come with it. These aren’t things that will “fix” the depression, or instantly make it better, they’re just some suggestions that can help – Seeing a doctor or a therapist you trust on top of these things can make all the difference.
