I am begging every single one of you to sign and share this petition. Patreon is introducing a new fee system that burdens patrons with fees instead of creators, creating a mass exodus of patrons who are cancelling their subscriptions to all creators, not just me.

I make my entire living on Patreon and this severely threatens my financial stability. I am a full-time student with one more semester left of school. These disgustingly greedy changes could destroy my livelihood, my finances, and could leave me unable to pay my rent, bills, and tuition. These changes could literally ruin my life. Besides, as a creator, I am more than happy to pay these fees rather than needlessly burden my Patrons.

If anyone has any suggestions for other platforms or other ways I can continue to keep the lights on, please sound off in the comments.

I am absolutely terrified and upset and beg Patreon to reconsider.

Edit: After seeing other Creators posting similar proposals, if you are a small-dollar Patron who is planning to unpledge or leave Patreon but still wants to support my work:

A couple links about what is going on with Patreon:

https://blog.patreon.com/updating-patreons-fee-structure/

https://www.engadget.com/2017/12/08/patreon-fee-change-will-hurt-small-contributions/

I do not know how the system for Patreon works, and the intricacies that come about because of fees. I am sure it is complicated.

But I speak exclusively from a creators standpoint, and from the standpoint that I’ve had donators come to me, scared they won’t be able to support me anymore or afford the tier they want to be in.

My standpoint, is seeing my donations drop a 100 dollars within 2 days because people do not like the system. My perspective comes from someone scared that this will get so bad, I will not be able to support myself on their site anymore. I think, that is a fair perspective to have, since we were given no choice in this matter.

Thanks for watching. I hope things get better in the future, and I will do my best to make things work.

EDIT: Oh yeah! I know I say Patreon is only a month-by-month payment, but that’s not true, you can have a video by video set up, as well. I just use it month by month so it came out naturally like that.

Honestly, I feel very scared and concerne about this. Since I started my patreon it was already discounting me more taxes than usual due to some laws about international payments in my country, so I have never get all of the donations people are giving to me… and now, whoever who made those changes without asking us first, are going to affect the payments even worse.

I hope they can see what have they done and fix it soon. Because this is an insult for donators and creators.

In my case, if I get less paid on Patreon than my Youtube channel, I will have to quit.

I do not want to imagine what will happen to other artists that only have Patreon to deal with situations even worse.

My heart is absolutely breaking over how horribly creators and donators are being treated by Patreon. Like, it’s disgusting. And disheartening.

This is people’s livelihoods that are being messed with. Content creators are depending on Patreon as a source of income and security and for the higher ups to do something so drastic and dumb without consulting with the creators who depend on their site and are the driving force of their website is just idiotic and selfish.

Not to mention this deters newcomers from using Patreon because of how iffy things are. Personally I’ve been working on setting up a Patreon but now I just want to wait until I see if this goes through, if they get rid of it, if they react at all, etc etc.

But the thing is that there are people – newcomers or long-time users – who cannot afford to wait. Literally – they can’t afford to step away, to not try it to support themselves and their craft, to turn to ‘any other options’ because there aren’t many yet. And depending on where you live in the world your options could be even slimmer.

It’s just gross. I’m sorry for everyone hurt because of this. I’m sorry that so many people have to feel worried about what comes next.

We have to keep faith that things will improve and that we must stay determined until they do, but we can’t afford to wait.

It sucks feeling powerless.

Everyone kept telling me to start a patreon, even my teacher told me to set one up and I was going to do it, but if this is happening I’m not so sure if I should anymore.. :/

At this point i think I should quit patreon …

even tho there are a few awesome people who are supporting me there but this is unfair for both sides and especially that I am not active there much and with the low income I am getting ?….adding more undescussed fees is so unfair….So if this isn’t fixed this month I’ll have to quit…..youtube is already providing me enough besides my commissions so it’s no big deal

Let’s see how they’ll deal with a lot of creators quiting their dump website

You see this video? You see these reblogs? I just got a chance to sit down and actually watch this video and, well…

… I have never felt my heart shatter so hard than when the 6:20 mark passed, for more than one reason.

But mostly it’s. Because this is entirely unfair to so many; creators and patrons alike. It’s absolutely ridiculous that Patreon seems to think their Creators are so greedy and corrupt that they’d be willing to do this to other people. Everyone in these reblogs above me in this post are all FANTASTIC examples of people that would never want to do this to their fans and supporters.

I’m still listening to this video as I try to type this out and, well. My sympathy tears are real considering the amount of genuine fear you can hear in her voice…

I started up my own Patreon, too. For a time. Friends came to donate to me and I never felt more joy and will to create than when they openly expressed to me that they were excited to support me… Now? I sit here trying to think up a way to set up an alternative for secondary income, and have already reverted my Creator account to Patron-only.

… and I really hope Patreon sorts their shit out soon…

Tumblr: *rolls out “best stuff first”*

My blog:

on the one hand this is a joke post because lol i have never made a good post in my life, but also, if i hadn’t made the connection

between this update and my sudden nosedive in activity, i would have been really fucking discouraged about all the shit i’ve been working on lately. i guarantee there are people on tumblr right now who haven’t made that connection, and who are trying to figure out why suddenly no one likes anything they’ve made. and that fucking sucks.

Reminder to go into your settings and turn off ‘Best Stuff First’ because my activity’s tanked a couple days ago for no reason so this stuff IS happening.

You WILL miss content with that setting on.

i ain’t joking when i say that my activity looks JUST like this too and i wasn’t sure why

I can only find the option on the app under Settings > Dashboard Preferences.

To support content creators do us a favour and turn off “Best stuff first”. Open the tumblr app (Android or iOs) and go to “Settings > Dashboard Preferences. And please reblog this post, so that everybody will see this. Thank you very much!

I assumed I just wasn’t writing very well, but maybe it’s not just me.

Am I supposed to pay to get my writing in front of followers now?

We interrupt your regularly-scheduled sci-fi content because this is important for app users, and it sucks. We all follow blogs because we want to see their content, not to have a crappy algorithm decide what’s best.

This blog is down approximately 80%, which doesn’t affect me other than as an annoyance (as this is a hobby and @okayto is small-ish) but the issue undoubtedly hurts others.

image

Below are instructions for turning it off. You have to do it individually–it doesn’t matter if a blog you follow turns it off, you’ll still be affected unless you do the same.

image

We don’t normally reblog PSAs, but this is very clearly affecting us, too! If you haven’t been getting your daily dose of RPG humor, this setting is probably why. Turn it off so you can see all the silly shit players say!

I felt so discouraged when the activity on my blog dropped drastically. Like, from an average of 16-20 notes to 3-4 notes. That’s a huge decrease for someone starting out, and thank god someone told me about this before I gave up on art or something.

Reblog if you’re someone suffering from this too!

@pidgerinbalt

Oh dude, thanks for the tag but I absolutely already turned my shit off and tbh I go out of my way about once a week to go thru all my favourite blogs because BY JOVE THESE PEOPLE DESERVE THE LOVE AND ATTENTION THEY WANT!!!

Also hey, don’t forget:

Only the first 5 tags on a post show up in Tumblr’s search, so tag accordingly!!

Ok but just imagine

wherethebuttercupsgrow:

Wallis, Assistant and Harold goes christmas shopping in one of Gloomverse’s biggest malls. Wallis is chattering amiably when he suddenly stops. There in front of him is a humongous christmas tree, one that reaches the top floor with ease. The ornaments themselves are probably about the same size of an adult human each.

Harold can guess what Wallis is thinking. “Wallis, no.”

His brother just gives a devious grin. “Wallis, yes.”

This all ends up with Wallis lugging this tall tree he just ppurchased back home using a pickup truck and getting everyone working under him to set it up on his front lawn.

Ok so just a small PSA here as well for anyone that’s supporting me on Patreon and missed the public post:

I’m totally canning my usage of Patreon as a creator. While I do wholeheartedly appreciate each and every dollar given to me by my supporters, the changes they’re making to their fees do not sit well with me, and I’m not quite too far down the rabbit hole for me cancelling my creator usage to affect me as much as it would other creators.

For reference, you can read about the changes here:
https://blog.patreon.com/updating-patreons-fee-structure/

So! Either tonight or tomorrow morning I’m gonna have to sit down and think about how the fuck I’m gonna make my Ko-Fi work as a substitute until either Patreon makes an option so I can be the one paying those fees, or a decent enough crowdfunding site comes along to replace them. Dunno how long this is gonna take but fully expect a massive post about it sometime.

And tbh? I’m so glad I have something to fall back on for income that isn’t just Patreon or commissions. It might not be a lot, but I should be good. As for what some other content creators are going through due to this… I really wish I could help them more. But I have my own bills to pay per month and can’t buy away all their problems like I wish I could… But all I can do is continue to offer my payments instead of BOYCOTTING like some stupid people are doing. Removing ur favourite creators income WILL NOT FIX ANYTHING. ALL IT’S GONNA DO IS MAKE IT HARD FOR THEM TO PUT BREAD ON THE TABLE. Please do not do this to ur fav artists.

That is all.

today i got two different blogs messaging me about needing bitcoins, both blogs are normal blogs (aka not bots) and both have followed me for a long time.

if anyone gets a chat message like this from me, please don’t interact with it, as it’s probably some kinda virus going around and i don’t know how one gets infected.

be careful guys, don’t click suspicious links mkay?

* reblogging here to inform more people!!

Yea I got one of these messages today and instantly blocked the user. I don’t even know if they were a follower of mine or not since notes have died after the addition of “Best Stuff First”, but regardless.

Stay safe out there, folks.
